Our 'Gut microbiome' temporary tattoo was designed for the Patil lab to represent their research as part of the Tattoo my Science project.

Gut microbiome

Did you know that there is 10 times more bacteria in our gut than cells in our body? This collection of microbes is called our gut microbiome and it's very important for keeping us healthy.

We study what changes in our gut microbiome when it is exposed to medicines, food contaminants or environmental pollutants. With this information, we can work out whether and how that can make us ill or even if it stops some medicines from working properly.

Microbiome mediated toxicity of drugs and other xenobiotics

We are investigating microbiome-drug and microbiome-pollutant interactions to uncover their contribution to side effects and toxicity.
