Our 'Epigenetics' temporary tattoo was designed for the van de Pette lab to represent their research as part of the Tattoo my Science project.
EpigeneticsOur cells control which genes are switched on or off by adding little tags to the DNA. This is called epigenetics. Our cells need the correct pattern of tags to work properly. Any changes could cause disease, but there is a type of drug that can reset the tags to what they should be to treat some illnesses. We study if these drugs are safe for pregnant women to take by asking if any changes to the epigenetic tags are temporary. Or if they change long term and the mistakes could be passed to the next generation. Design by Emma Hands |
The van de Pette lab left the Unit in June 2023. However, epigenetics remains a common theme throughout many of our labs' research areas.
