The MRC Toxicology Unit strives to be a fully open and transparent research organisation, where public engagement and involvement are embedded throughout the research ethos. Through a varied and dynamic engagement programme, we will maximise the impact of our science by advancing understanding, supporting innovation, and clearly addressing key societal issues. Our public engagement programme will build public confidence, trust and value and dialogue between scientific research and groups within society. We will inspire the public and highlight the role that our research and fundamental toxicology research in general has in addressing societal challenges.

The public engagement strategy will focus on the following pillars, or priorities, outlining what we are trying to achieve through our activities:

  • Maximising the impact of Unit research and improving research outcomes
  • Generating trust in fundamental research and ensuring our research remains relevant to society
  • Inspiring and empowering the next generation of scientists
  • Establishing and maintaining productive partnerships
  • Embedding public engagement into research culture
