Our 'Cell death' temporary tattoo was designed for the MacFarlane lab to represent their research as part of the Tattoo my Science project.

Cell death

Have you heard of mitochondria? They live in our cells and carry out important functions like making the energy that our cells need to survive and removing unhealthy cells via cell death. But if there is a problem with our mitochondria causing too much or too little cell death, it can lead to a range of different diseases.

Our lab studies how the medicines we take can potentially cause damage to mitochondria, so that we can prevent unwanted cell death and make better medicines.

Molecular mechanisms of cell death

Our Programme is aimed at understanding the fundamental mechanisms of cell death that regulate life/death decisions at the cellular level. By understanding the underlying molecular and cell biology of these processes, we aim to deliver field-changing mechanistic insights into toxicology and disease.
