Kathryn works closely with members of the Unit and will be based in the Gleeson building from November.

Professor Kathryn Lilley has been elected as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) in recognition of her high quality life science research.

Speaking about her election, Kathryn said: “I feel extremely honoured to have been elected as a member of EMBO by my peers, which also recognises the efforts and achievements of my fabulous research group members and numerous collaborators both past and present. All of this would not have been possible without funding from the BBSRC, Wellcome Trust and the EU. I am looking forward to being involved in the organisation’s initiatives strengthening research across Europe and afar.”

EMBO Members actively participate in the execution of the organisation’s initiatives by serving on Council, committees and editorial boards, and by evaluating applications for EMBO funding. As a result, EMBO Members collectively influence the future directions of life science research and strengthen research communities across Europe.

Election to EMBO Membership gives recognition of research excellence and the outstanding achievements made by a life scientist. Kathryn is a Research Group Leader in our Department, Director of the Cambridge Centre for Proteomics, and is a member of the CRUK Cambridge Centre Cell and Molecular Biology Programme. Her research aims to interrogate how the functional proteome correlates with complexity. To achieve this, her research laboratory is at the forefront of technology development and application, which enables measurement of the dynamics of the proteome and transcriptome in a high-throughput manner in space and time during cellular processes such as signalling, differentiation and response to drug treatment.
