Throughout 2024, members of the public have been invited into the Toxicology Unit to create prints based on their interpretations of our research.

In collaboration with Curwen Print Study Centre, we hosted five printmaking workshops between March and September. Each workshop was hosted by a different researcher who presented an overview of their research topic and gave the workshop attendees a brief tour around some of our labs. This was followed by an introduction to a new printmaking technique from Curwen tutors, before an afternoon spent creating prints inspired by the science using new found printmaking skills.

Across our workshop series, we covered our research on air pollution, the gut microbiome, RNA therapeutics and cell-based therapies, immunotherapies and mitochondrial toxicity and created prints using the following printmaking techniques: dry point etching, lino cut, cardboard cut, tetrapak and monoprinting. Hundreds of prints were created which we now hope to turn into an artwork to display within the Unit.

A huge thank you to all the researchers who hosted workshops, our tutors Charlotte and Patsy and the rest of the Curwen team and the 50+ members of the public who joined us to explore toxicology research through printmaking.
