"I started my PhD at the MRC Toxicology Unit in 2018 on an MRC funded studentship, working in the Martins lab, exploring mechanisms of mitochondrial toxicity in a Drosophila melanogaster Parkinson’s disease model. The MRC Toxicology Unit offers expertise and excellent facilities, with state-of-the-art equipment and friendly staff, allowing you to successfully carry out your PhD research project. The Unit also has a weekly seminar programme, where Unit members present their research. The Unit seminar has given me insight into multiple fields of research, reflective of the diversity of research present at the Unit. PhD students and postdocs also have a separate seminar programme (PPF), where they get to communicate their research and network with their peers over pizza. Being a part of the PPF committee has further helped me improve my soft skills. My aim following completion of my PhD is to apply for Post-Doctoral positions, and I believe that the MRC Toxicology Unit has provided the relevant skills and knowledge that will enable me to do that."
