On the 17-19 September 2018 the 1st joint Cell Death & Differentiation and MRC Conference on “Genes vs Environment in Cancer Conference” was held at the Clare College in Cambridge, UK. The aim of this CDD-MRC Conference was to promote a multidisciplinary group, including luminary scientists, to discuss new ideas to advance our current understanding of relative contribution of genetic and environmental factors to the aetiology of life-threatening diseases such as cancer. During the conference the Prof. Karen Vousden from The Crick Institute, London, was awarded of the CDD Award 2018 for her pioneering studies on the function of the tumour suppressor protein p53 in the response to environmental stressors. The great success of this event will lead to further editions in the future. Next edition will be held at the Clare College in Cambridge on the 9-11 September 2019.
